Art and Phonics/Reading Classes for children of all ages!


SUMMER SATURDAY ART CLASS !!
The following table provides a listing of Edgemoor Art Studio class offerings. Every child develops at his or her own pace, and as such some of the class age groups may overlap in order to benefit and encourage students at all skill levels. At Edgemoor Art Studio, the child’s individual creative process is nurtured and a “can do” attitude is emphasized in every class and age group. 

Draw! Paint! Sculpt! (ages 5 and up welcome)
Saturdays Cost:  equal payments of  $110  Please note: ALL TUITION IS DUE ON OR PRIOR TO THE FIRST OF EACH MONTH ! (available during summer!)

Art Rocks! 2013 Art Camps are offered during the summer! Please see "Camps" page!  Enrollment is open throughout the course for regular classes; your child is welcome to join us anytime! Please select a class and register online! 10% sibling discount available for all classes and workshops.


My Grown Up and Me (ages 2-3 accompanied by a parent or caregiver please)
Monday or Thursday 11:30-12:30   Cost: equal monthly payments of $80 materials & snack inc.

This is a wonderful time for children and their special adults to be able to spend time creating together! Little ones will squeal with delight as they experiment with bright-colored paint, squishy clay, paper, and glue. This is the age for tactile and sensory exploration; it is also an important time for a child to engage in enriching artistic activities with peers in order to promote healthy language development. The instructor will read an animated story, followed by an open-ended art experience. Be prepared to get messy! Art smocks will be available at the studio. (unavailable during summer)

Art Discovery (ages 3-4 - this is a drop-off class)
Tuesday 2:00-3:00pm   Cost: equal payments of $80 materials & snack inc.

This class provides a basic introduction to art as a way of self-expression for preschoolers. Students explore art materials and develop foundational drawing and painting skills through many art processes. Individual creativity is nurtured while developing fine motor coordination. Students will use tempera, colored pencils, watercolor, pastel, crayons, and fabric, clay, wood. (Unavailable during summer)

Intro to Art (ages 4-5)
Thursday 1:30-2:30pm   Cost: equal payments of $90 materials and snack included.

In this age group, children are generally assigning people, places, and things to the marks they make. It is a time when wonderful stories abound and lengthy descriptions of their drawings are shared! In this class, children will be exposed to the basic art elements, such as: tone, space, shape color, quality of line, as a way of self-expression. The students will view and discuss the work of old and modern artists, and be shown new approaches in the way in which they use media (pencil, marker, pastels, tempera, & watercolor). Students will have lots of creative fun 
as they explore collage and make clay and found objects sculptures.

Junior Class (ages 5-9)  2-hour class  
Wednesday                           (continues during summer)
5:00-7:00pm  Cost:  equal monthly payments of $110 materials and snack included.

The Junior class is designed for children between the ages of 5- 9.
This class builds on the foundations taught in the beginning class and focuses on enhancing previous skills and furthering knowledge of the art elements by applying color, texture, perspective, and shading to their artworks. Students will use tempera, acrylic, soft pastel, oil pastel, colored pencil, watercolor, and modeling clay.
All students receive a sketchbook in which they are required to complete weekly art assignments.

Homeschool Art Class (ages 5 and up)  2- hour class (school-year only)
Wednesday or Friday 1:00-3:00pm Cost:  equal monthly payments of $110  (Homeschool groups welcome!)

Yes, you can draw! Children in this class will begin with basic drawing skills using pencils. We will discuss the elements of shape and quality of line and do many drawing exercises to practice overlapping, shading techniques, and sketching. Students will have opportunities to draw from life to learn how to really "see" contours and shapes in their subjects.Students will gain confidence and skill in using colored pencils, pastels, and charcoal. Observation drawing and composition is emphasized. Sketchbooks are provided.

Intermediate (ages 7-11)   2-hour class   (continues during summer)
 Thurs 5:00-7:00pm     Cost:  equal monthly payments of $110 materials and snack included. 

This class continues to build on skills taught in the Junior class. Students in this class focus on refining drawing and painting techniques, composition, shading, art styles, and mediums. Students learn about the Principles of Design and discuss the work of the masters. Advanced concepts are introduced, including radial symmetry, Notan, optical illusion, foreshortening, and color mixing. Students begin to work independently using acrylic, watercolor, pastel, sculpting clay, and charcoal. Students learn to sketch and journal their ideas in a sketchbook and have required weekly assignments to be completed by the next class.

Intermediate II (ages 8– 16)  2-hour class   (continues during summer)

Friday 5:00-7:00pm        Cost:  equal monthly payments of $110 materials and snack included.

In this class, students continue to refine their drawing and painting skill, concentrating on techniques in oil, acrylic, chalk pastel, oil pastel, watercolor, and colored pencils. Students select their own mediums and work from graphics, still-life set-ups and local landscape. Emphasis is on individual style and mastery of mediums. Portraiture and gesture are emphasized. Students keep artistic journals and learn how to respond to art.
